Salvation
Army's truck pickup of donated items
The Salvation Army Orange County is aware that there is concern
and a misunderstanding by some of its donor public regarding
the pickup of donated items from their homes. Drivers arrive
and cannot pickup certain household goods. I hope the following
information will clarify and alleviate some problems of what
The Salvation Army can do to expedite the giving of donated
items.
Items that Drivers cannot pick up include: All built-ins,
furniture that is broken and cannot be repaired, office desks,
king-size mattresses/box springs, waterbeds, dishwashers,
garbage disposals and hospital beds or equipment. The Salvation
Army Anaheim Adult Rehabilitation Center, where the goods
are sorted, does not have major repair facilities. Other items
that cannot be picked up are: TVs & radios that no longer
work, electric organs, carpeting, copy machines, window treatments
(drapes, blinds etc.), technical/medical textbooks, magazines,
wall/water heaters and water softeners.
Drivers will pick up: clothing, living room and bedroom furniture,
kitchen/dining room items, area/throw rugs, pictures, accessories
(knick-knacks) and kitchen utensils/dishes.
When calling for a pickup: 1.800.95TRUCK (1.800.958.7825),
the Customer Service Representative will ask about the items
to be picked up. Please don't hesitate to give a complete
listing. They can say on the phone whether an item can or
cannot be picked up. If there is a question regarding an unusual
item, please ask. The representative will then arrange a date
and time for your donations to be picked up.
Items may also be dropped off at any of the Family Stores
or drop boxes located throughout Orange County. Call the above
phone number to find out the nearest location.
The Salvation Army Anaheim Adult Rehabilitation Center and
the Women's Residence helped 1,465 men and 112 women during
2002. Those figures are expected to be much higher this year.
The program has no cost to the beneficiaries partially due
to the revenue generated from items sold in the Thrift Stores.
In Orange County The Salvation Army has helped people for
over 116 years. Donated items are greatly appreciated and
provide much needed assistance to those in need.
Thank you very much.
God bless you.
