SALVATION ARMY BRINGS JOY
DURING UNCERTAIN CHRISTMAS SEASON

Orange County, CA – In a world still threatened by terrorism and violence, Americans struggle to cope with the new realities of personal and homeland security. Amid the turmoil at home and abroad, The Salvation Army continues to share its message of hope and caring and serves without fanfare where the need is greatest.

In Orange County the Army is gearing up once again, as it has for over 100 years, to share the joy of Christmas with those in the greatest need. Staff and volunteers are hard at work packing Christmas food boxes for destitute families, preparing holiday dinners for hungry individuals and collecting toys to give to hurting children. They’re adopting the most deserving families to give them a special Christmas with food, clothing and gifts, delivering presents and Christmas music to the sick and forgotten in nursing homes and hospitals and sharing the Army’s message of hope and faith across the nation.

“Charities have been hit hard by drop-offs in donations this year, “ notes Orange County Coordinator Major Lee Lescano. “With uncertainty because of the war in Iraq and worries about the economy, people have cut back on their donations. Now, it’s a real struggle for us to get the resources we need to help people get back on their feet and make it through their personal challenges.”

“We want to remind Americans how fortunate they still are and encourage them to be generous in the spirit of the season. We’re asking them to share their blessings with those at the bottom of the ladder. Our Salvation Army programs help the needy and discouraged regain hope for their lives.

We don’t want to give them just a handout. We want to put them on the road to a bright future with a hand up.”

Christmas programs organized by The Salvation Army are an extension of services rendered year-round. Says Major Lescano, “Heart to God and Hand to Man is our motto. What we stand for 365 days of the year is the spirit of Christ’s love working among men, women and children. We want to share our joy with them and care for them in His name.”
