SALVATION ARMY ORANGE COUNTY BRINGS
FAMILIAR JOY
DURING AN UNCERTAIN CHRISTMAS SEASON
While Americans
adjust to a world rocked by corporate greed and threatened
by terrorism, The Salvation Army in Orange County quietly
goes about its business. With comforting continuity the Army
is organizing once again to provide Christmas assistance to
the needy of Orange County.
"This year
the stock market's volatility created a vast drop-off in donations
to charity," notes Orange County Coordinator Captain
Lee Lescano. "The ill-advised decisions of a few CEO's
and financial professionals have shaken everyone up. People
have pulled back from their normal habits of giving. Now,
we're having trouble getting the resources we need to help
people make it through their personal difficulties to see
a brighter day."
Other Christmas
programs organized by The Salvation Army in Orange County
include bringing holiday gifts to neglected seniors, the homebound
and people in hospitals and nursing homes. These activities
are an extension of work being done year-round. "Need
Knows No Season," says Captain Lescano. "What we
stand for 365 days of the year is the spirit of Jesus Christ
working among men, women and children; lifting them up in
fellowship and showing them love."
The Salvation Army
serves the 31 communities of Orange County through its familiar
Red Kettle Christmas program providing food, toys and support
to more than 21,000 individuals during the holiday season.
