Welcome 2008

“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved...”

-- John 10:9

Dear Friends,Lee and Michele Lescano

Salvationists in the early 1880’s wore a shield (badge) on their clothing as identification. Today, the Red Shield is a world-wide symbol of The Salvation Army’s social services programs. “Behind the Red Shield,” since 1887, The Army in Orange County has had its doors open, providing many varied programs and services. You will see these illustrated throughout this website.

The Bible refers to and the dictionary defines a Shield as “a piece of armor carried on the arm…one that guards and protects.” Our Advisory Board is an integral arm that ‘guards and protects’ our interests. They consult with us on matters that concern the future of The Army in Orange County. Additional Transitional Housing on the site of the former El Toro Air Base, the renovation of the Anaheim Red Shield Center and the Hospitality House in Santa Ana are all in progress. We are very grateful for these volunteers who give of themselves to make a difference in others lives.

Our Christmas Distribution program for low-income families was very successful, thanks in great part by the use of the well-located and equipped Angel Stadium, which was provided by Angels Baseball management. We thank the over 4500 volunteers who helped with the distribution process.

In October 2007, The Salvation Army was involved in emergency disaster relief when the Santiago fire charred Orange County hillsides. We provided assistance to over 650 individuals.

On other fronts, our Youth Centers have had a boost in attendance. “The Creator’s Corner” preschool is at capacity enrollment. The Pioneer School of Music also continues to grow in numbers of students.

But most of all “Behind the Red Shield” is you, our faithful supporters and contributors. You give much of your time, talent and financial resources. Thanks to you, The Salvation Army continues to provide programs and services to the most needy in the 34 Orange County communities.

God bless you,
Majors Lee and Michele Lescano
